Downsview Park's Annual Trail of Lights begins November 27, 2009 and promises wonder and merriment for the entire family

Ontario Science Centre presents Free Fridays after 2 pm - all Ontario high school students receive free admission until June 30, 2010

Looking for a great dorm room gift? Or just a great deal on a fully featured Apple iPod/iPhone/iTouch accessory.  Yesterday we mentioned BestBuy Canada's deal on a nice little Logitech Pure-Fi iPOD dock/clock radio. 

While actually going in to pick up the Logitech unit at a local BestBuy, we noticed the iLive system pictured for $10 less! The Logitech Pure-Fi would have better sound, but the iLive unit had a basic CD/DVD player built-in, which proved to be enticement enough.

Having purchased iLive iPOD audio accessories before, we know to expect low-cost, plastic, but feature rich products, at great prices.  The last iLive boom box purchased took some abuse before finally refusing to turn on after two years.  You get what you pay for, but at $60 bucks this new unit was a great deal. Once purchased, unpacked, and set-up we were surprised and don't plan on returning it.  It had a great feature list:

• Built-in basic clock radio with sleep
• Included tiny Bose-style creditcard-size remote with station presets
• AM/FM/CD and DVD player built-in (DVD cable out via included RCA red/white/yellow cables)
• Aux-in/Line-in mini connector for other MP3 players (cable included)
• USB and iPOD Dock connector for most iPODs and iTouchs (adapters included)
• Head-phone jack
• CD can play MP3 or audio CDs
• Detachable speakers with included 5ft cables

When trying out the radio and attached Apple iPOD, we were pleased by the sound, general loudness and stereo qualities that only detachable speakers can provide.  For $60, the manual was better than nothing and the slight hum that he units built-in power supply makes that can be heard at very low volumes.  All in all the trade-off for a better brand, warranty (only 90 days) and a tiny hum versus all the features made the gift recipient quite happy.  The iLive DVD music system should be available at Bestbuy.ca and in stores at $59.99 until September 10th or longer.  Bestbuy charges about $15 for an extended warranty (which we didn't get), for all the detals click here.
